Millbrook Horizons
Our satellite site, and the home of “Millbrook Horizons”
Millbrook Horizons is the satellite site of The Becklands School. It is part of the same school, under the same Department for Education registration, with the same curriculum, the same leadership structure, the same safeguarding arrangements and the same expectations of every pupil.

Curriculum at Millbrook Horizons
Students who attend Millbrook Horizons will still get access to our extensive SEMH curriculum, they still complete English and Maths etc.
However, Millbrook is the location for our land-based and practical curriculum to be delivered. It is links in strongly with employability and preparation for adulthood, designed to move pupils towards further education, training or work with real skills and real accreditation behind them along with fostering key skills such as confidence, working as a team, resilience and supporting emotional regulation by using the outdoor space.
Subjects that can be delivered onsite include:
- Animal care — routine husbandry, handling, welfare and responsibility for living things
- Equine learning — working with horses, in a setting that asks for patience, calm and self-regulation
- Horticulture — growing, propagation, seasonal planning and site maintenance
- Joinery and woodwork — measuring, planning, making and finishing practical projects
- Lifestyle and leisure — the practical and social skills of adult independent living
Alongside these pathways, pupils gain accredited qualifications and additional employment training in areas such as health and safety and first aid.
We are enthusiastic about starting BTEC qualifications this year in the above subjects in due course following our recent registration.
Students are provided with an offer appropriate for their abilities, age and also EHCP outcomes.
Qualifications and accreditation
Work at Millbrook Horizons is accredited, not informal. Depending on the pathway and the pupil’s starting point, learning leads to recognised qualifications and units ASDAN, NOCN Functional Skills, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, AQA Awards and any BTEC delivered on site.
Pupils working at Millbrook continue with their English, maths and wider curriculum. The two sites deliver one curriculum between them.
